New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired an all-party meet today and on Friday and made some significant announcements about the Coronavirus vaccine. PM Modi said that nearly eight vaccines are at different stages of trial with their manufacturing assured in India and once the scientists give a green signal it will be released in a few weeks.

PM Modi also said that the teams of Central and state governments are working together for vaccine distribution and that the vaccine will not be long and it may be ready in a few weeks.

He also talked about new software that can help people track the status of the vaccine in India.

What is Co-Vin app?

The Co-Vin (COVID-19 Vaccine Intelligence Network) app which has been developed by the central government will have real-time information on Covid-19 procurement, distribution, circulation, storage, and dose schedules of the vaccine.It is actually a repurposed version of the eVIN system which was earlier used during the Universal Immunisation Programme.

The app will also notify the first recipients of the vaccine once the shot has been scheduled. A report ANI says that the government has also asked states to upload data of health care workers on its application.

On Thursday while addressing the National Council of Confederation of Indian Industries Health Minister Harsh Vardhan has said that the ‘movement of stock can be digitally tracked and those receiving vaccines can also be traced after two to three weeks if the vaccine requires two shots. This will ensure last-mile vaccine delivery.'

A dry run of the app will be done in Telangana and Rajasthan.
