Coronavirus LIVE, January 3, 2021: COVID-19 vaccination drive for beneficiaries in the age bracket of 15-18 years begins today across the country. As announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 25, 2021, the vaccination for the age-group 15-18 years is scheduled to begin from January 3, 2022, while administration of precautionary third dose for the vulnerable categories is to commence from January 10, 2022.
In the context of the vaccination of the age group 15-18 years, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan had informed the States, Union Territories that only 'Covaxin' is to be administered in this population category and additional doses of 'Covaxin' will be sent to all States and UTs.
Potential beneficiaries began registering themselves on the Co-WIN portal from January 1, 2022, or they can also avail of a walk-in registration when vaccination commences from today.
Those with the birth year of 2007 or before will be eligible for vaccination under this category, the official release by the Health Ministry said.
All established protocols regarding vaccination are to be followed for the 15-18 years age group; beneficiaries are to wait for half an hour when they will be monitored for the adverse event following immunization (AEFI) and will be eligible for the second dose only after 28 days.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra on Sunday reported 11,877 fresh COVID-19 cases, 2,707 more than the day before, and 50 Omicron infections, the state health department said in a bulletin.
The state reported nine fatalities, which increased the overall COVID-19 toll to 1,41,542. Maharashtra is now left with 42,024 active cases, the bulletin said.
Of the new 11,877 cases, 7,792 are from Mumbai, it said. However, as per the Mumbai civic body, the number of new cases detected in the city on Sunday was 8,063.
The Mumbai region including satellite cities and neighbouring districts reported 10,394 infections nearly 90 per cent of the total cases in the state.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data showed the city had reported 809 cases on December 27, which meant the tally jumped by almost 10 times as on Sunday.
Union Minister Mahendra Nath Pandey Tests Positive For Covid, Admitted To Hospital In Delhi
Union Minister for Heavy Industries Mahendra Nath Pandey was admitted to a hospital here on Monday after he tested positive for COVID-19. Pandey, 65, who is a BJP MP from Chandauli constituency, had earlier also tested positive for the coronavirus.
'I was unwell for the last two days due to which I underwent the COVID test and the report came positive. All those who have come in contact with me in the last few days are requested to take care of themselves and get the necessary investigations done," he tweeted.
The minister was admitted at the Yashoda hospital in Kaushambi.

Maharashtra reported 12,160 fresh coronavirus cases on Monday, 283 more than the previous day, and 11 new deaths, while the active tally crossed the 50,000-mark, the state health department said.
With these additions, the state's COVID-19 tally rose to 67,12,028, while the death toll increased to 1,41,553. The state recorded 68 fresh cases of the new coronavirus variant Omicron in the last 24 hours, taking the tally of such infections to 578.
Kerala Reports 29 Fresh Cases Of Omicron, State Tally Rises To 181
Kerala Health Minister Veena George on Monday informed that 29 more people have turned positive for the Omicron variant of the coronavirus, taking the tally to 181.
She said of the total Omicron patients, 42 have by now been discharged from hospitals and are back home.
Of the 181 Omicron cases, 52 came from high risk countries, while 109 came from low risk countries and 20 were contacts of primary sources who were positive for Omicron.
Physical Attendance Of Govt Servants Restricted To 50%: Centre
Physical attendance of government servants below level of undersecretary is restricted to 50 per cent, remaining to work from home, Central government said on Monday amid rising cases of Coronavirus in the country.
It also said that persons with disabilities and pregnant women employees will be exempted from attending office.
