Bharat Biotech says its trial of Covaxin booster jabs has demonstrated "long-term safety with no serious adverse events". "90% of recipients had a detectable neutralizing antibody response against the wild-type strain (6 months after the second dose)," the Covaxin maker stated.

India continues to witness a massive surge in Covid cases as the country's daily spike in infections has crossed the 1 lakh mark on Friday. India recorded 1,17,100 fresh Covid cases in the last 24 hours which is a slight rise from Thursday, which saw close to 90k cases.
India's Omicron tally also reached 3007 in the last 24 hours.
Both Mumbai and Delhi continued to witness the worrying surge in Coronavirus cases as the cities reported 20,971, and 17,335 new coronavirus infections respectively.
The financial capital also reported six deaths due to the virus, the highest in a day in the last two months, as per a BMC release. Notably, at least 93 personnel of the Mumbai police tested positive for COVID-19 in a single day, an official said on Friday.
Delhi, the other epicenter of Covid in this surge is witnessing a weekend curfew. During this weekend curfew, people will not be allowed to step out for any non-essential work. One will be allowed to step out of the house only for essential work or those under exempted categories. Government employees of all offices except for the essential services will also work from home.
The eligible population who already received their two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine and eligible for the booster dose will not be required to undergo new registration, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Friday.
The Centre on Friday said all international passengers arriving in the country would have to undergo mandatory seven-day home quarantine.
The revised guidelines for international arrivals in India will be valid with effect from January 11, 2022.
