Centre Didn't Ask For Data Of Deaths Caused By Oxygen Shortage, No Record: Chhattisgarh Health Minister

Chhattisgarh Health Minister TS Singh Deo has accused the Centre of misleading the country. Singh Deo said that the Centre never asked the state for details of deaths due to lack of oxygen and there is no record of such deaths in Chhattisgarh so far.

The Chhattisgarh government will re-audit the deaths during the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic in the state to find out whether any of them were due to lack of oxygen. Singh Deo said, "we are already auditing the deaths related to COVID-19. If there is any death due to lack of oxygen, then we will audit again keeping this in mind".

Singh Deo said that the audit is being expanded to get information about the deaths due to lack of oxygen in or outside hospitals during the second wave of COVID in the state. "Transparency is the core of a democratically elected government and we will follow transparency. The Centre is saying in the Parliament that the states have told them (there have been no deaths due to lack of oxygen). If they never asked us about it, how would we tell them?" he questioned.

The central government had said in the Rajya Sabha on the 20th of this month that during the second wave of COVID 9, no death occurred due to lack of oxygen in the states and union territories. The opposition parties criticised the central government over the same.
