The daily new COVID-19 cases fell below 30,000 for the third time this month taking India's virus caseload to 98.84 lakh, while the number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 93.88 lakh, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Monday.

Initial doses of Pfizer's coronavirus vaccine will be delivered to the United States from Monday morning, said General Gustave Perna, head of the Donald Trump-led administration's Operation Warp Speed, on Saturday.

Lima: Clinical trials of a vaccine made by Chinese drug giant Sinopharm have been temporarily suspended in Peru after neurological problems were detected in one of the volunteers.




The National Institute of Health said that it had decided to interrupt the trial after a volunteer had difficulty moving their arms, according to local media.




"Several days ago we signaled, as we are required, to the regulatory authorities that one of our participants (in trials) presented neurological symptoms which could correspond to a condition called Guillain-Barre syndrome," said chief researcher German Malaga, AFP reported.




Guillain-Barre syndrome is a rare and non-contagious disorder which affects the movement of the arms and legs. Peru declared a temporary health emergency in five regions in June last year following multiple cases.

WHO Reveals 1 Billion Covid Vaccine Doses Secured For Low & Middle-Income Nations




The World Health Organization (WHO) has assured that almost 1 billion doses of leading Covid-19 vaccine candidates have been secured as part of its 'COVAX' programme to provide vaccines for low and middle-income countries.




At a Geneva press conference, WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that 189 countries were participating in the programme.




WHO expects to make decisions on whether to give emergency use approval to vaccines from Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca in the coming weeks.




The approval could allow a vaccine to be available in some countries where national medical regulators are yet to evaluate it.

West Bengal's COVID-19 death toll went up to 8,916 after 46 people succumbed to the disease on Thursday, while 2,801 fresh cases of infection took the tally 5,13,752, the health department said in a bulletin here. Fifteen more people succumbed to COVID-19 in Rajasthan, bringing the death toll to 2,500 on Thursday, while 1,592 fresh cases raised the infection count to 2,87,219 in the state, according to an official report.




Three new fatalities were reported from Jodhpur; two each from Ajmer, Jaipur and Kota, while Dausa, Dungarpur, Ganganagar, Jhunjhunu, Pali and Udaipur registered one death each due to COVID-19, the report said.

New Delhi: The World Health Organization (WHO) has assured that almost 1 billion doses of leading Covid-19 vaccine candidates have been secured as part of its 'COVAX' programme to provide vaccines for low and middle-income countries.
 


India's coronavirus case count rose to 98.57 lakh, while the number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 93.57 lakh pushing the national recovery rate to 94.93 per cent, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Sunday. 30,254 infections were reported in a day on Sunday, while the death count rose to 1,43,019 with 391 new fatalities, the data showed.


The COVID-19 caseload of the country remained below 4 lakh for the seventh consecutive day on Sunday.


Meanwhile, the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine was to begin leaving the company's Michigan factory on Sunday, ready to be injected into the arms of millions of the most vulnerable Americans as the global number of deaths topped 1.6 million.


Doses will be shipped out in boxes containing dry ice that are capable of staying at -70 degrees Celsius (-94 degrees Fahrenheit), the frigid temperature needed to preserve the drug.
