Coronavirus in India: India on Wednesday witnessed another massive surge in its Covid-19 cases with over 67,000 cases reported in a day and over 1000 fatalities, pushing the overall tally beyond 32 lakh- mark. As per the Union Ministry of Family & Welfare, India's Covid-19 case tally crossed 32 lakh mark with 67,151 fresh cases and 1,059 deaths in the last 24 hours.

The Covid-19 case tally in the country rises to 32,34,475 including 7,07,267 active cases, 24,67,759 cured/discharged/migrated & 59,449 deaths, Ministry of Health has stated.

Over 3.7 crore tests conducted so far:

The total number of samples tested up to 25th August is 3,76,51,512 including 8,23,992 samples tested yesterday, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has stated.

“India has exponentially scaled its TESTING from one in January to 10 lakh/day in August 2020,” the health ministry has said in a tweet.

India’s recovery rate, despite an increased testing has shown a good progress, as per the government.

  • With 59,449 deaths, India’s fatality rate is 1.84%.

  • With 24,67,758 recoveries, the recovery rate has improved to 76.3 %

  • 87 % cases are active cases as of now.


On Tuesday, the Union Health Ministry informed that there has been more than 100 per cent hike in the recoveries in the last 25 days and the steadily falling Case Fatality Rates (CFR) stands at 1.84 per cent.

As per the data provided by the ministry, Maharashtra has 1,66,239 active coronavirus cases, the highest in the country followed by Andhra Pradesh with 89,932 active cases.
