Coronavirus India: India on Thursday witnessed its worst-ever increase in daily covid-19 cases as nearly 76,000 fresh cases and over 1000 deaths were reported in 24 hours, pushing the overall tally beyond 33 lakh- mark. As per the Union Ministry of Family & Welfare, India's Covid-19 case tally crossed 33 lakh mark with 75,760 fresh cases and 1,023 deaths, in the last 24 hours. The Covid-19 case tally in the country rises to 33,10,235 including 7,25,991 active cases, 25,23,772 cured/discharged/migrated & 60,472 deaths, Ministry of Health has stated.

Over 3.8 crore tests conducted so far:

The total number of samples tested up to 26th August is 3,85,76,510 including 9,24,998 samples tested yesterday, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has stated.

Important Figures:

India’s recovery rate, despite an increased testing has shown a good progress, as per the government.

  • With 60,472 deaths, India’s fatality rate is 1.83%

  • With 25,23,7721 recoveries, the recovery rate has improved to 76.24%

  • 21.93% cases are active cases as of now.


Early identification through aggressive testing, comprehensive surveillance & contact tracing, and focus on timely and efficient clinical treatment of patients have ensured high number of speedy recoveries. This has also kept the Case Fatality Rate low, health ministry has said in a tweet. It shared a list of better performing states in case fatality rate.



Meanwhile, the health Ministry has recommended said that Tuberculosis is associated with a 2.1-fold increased risk of severe Covid-19 disease, recommending that all newly-diagnosed tuberculosis patients or those currently on treatment should be tested for Covid-19 and vice versa.
