Coronavirus In India: India on Tuesday morning, recorded 55,342 fresh cases and 706 deaths in the last 24 hours, marking a significant dip in its daily cases. As per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India reported a spike of 55,342 new Covid-19 cases and 706 deaths in the last 24 hours.  The latest figures have brought some relief to the otherwise grim situation of the country in terms of Covid-19 infection.


As per the Union Health Ministry , the total case tally stands at 71,75,881 including 8,38,729 active cases, 62,27,296 cured/discharged/migrated cases & 1,09,856 deaths.

The total number of recovered cases have crossed 62 lakh.

Notably, today’s daily spike is the lowest since August.

Testing in India

Total number of samples tested up to 12th October is 8,89,45,107 including 10,73,014 samples tested yesterday, the Indian Council of Medical Research has said.

Is the curve finally flattening?

India saw its peak of Covid-19 cases in September, which went upto as high as nearly 99,000 cases in a single-day spike. Over recent weeks, the daily cases have come down significantly.

As per the Ministry of Health, India is showing a trend of declining average daily cases over the past five weeks. It shared a graph that showed daily figures from the week starting September 9.

India’s active cases trajectory is also witnessing a downward slope, as per the government figures.

After a month, on 9th Oct, active cases fell below the 9L mark and have steadily followed a downward slope since, health ministry has said.


While the recovery rate stands at 86.78 per cent, the fatality rate is 1.53 per cent, the data from the Ministry data showed.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst-hit with a total of 15,35,315 cases including 40,514 deaths; followed by Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.
