Wordle is becoming a board game now. The New York Times, which owns the popular online word puzzle, is partnering with Hasbro to create "Wordle: The Party Game" that is launching in October. The game is already available for pre-order, the companies announced in a statement, which also said it will deliver “classic Wordle gameplay…in an all new way".


“Wordle truly brought us all together and that’s what makes it so special. With each daily puzzle, we’re connected with friends and family through social play,” Jonathan Knight, head of Games for The New York Times, was quoted as saying in the statement. 


The new game, which NYT and Hasbro are calling “perfect for game night with friends and family”, will be initially available for purchase in North America.  


Hasbro said they are teaming up with NYT to “bring our gaming worlds together and extend Wordle in new ways”.


Adam Biehl, SVP & General Manager, Hasbro Gaming, said: “Since Wordle burst onto the scene, it’s undoubtedly been a staple in social and pop culture vocabulary.” 


How To Play Wordle: The Party Game 


Wordle: The Party Game will retain the gameplay loved by all Wordle enthusiasts, but they will now have to compete in real life to solve the game, according to its makers. 


Each round will have one player designated as the Wordle Host writing down a ‘Secret Word’. Others will get six attempts to guess the five-letter word, just like they do in the original Wordle. Here, however, the players are competing against others and scoring depends on the number of attempts a player needs to crack the word of the day. 


The fewer attempts a player needs, the fewer points they score, and the player with the fewest points wins at the end of the game. 


And it’s no longer a game that you can play only once a day. You can play The Party Game repeatedly, as the game kit designed for ages 14 and up will come with dry-and-erase Wordle boards and markers. 


The players will also get four modes to choose from — classic play, fast, timed, or teams.
