PlayStation 5 was launched by Sony in November 2020 as the next-gen console from the Japanese tech giant. Now, it appears that the company could be working on a PlayStation 5 Pro variant. As per a report, American chipmaker AMD is looking to hire chip developers to work on custom processors for the PS5 Pro. Sony launched its current-gen PS4 back in 2013 and eventually introduced the PS4 Pro in 2016. So, considering that timeline, it can be speculated that the PS5 Pro can be released soon.
As per a report by MyDrivers, AMD is looking to hire a chip verification engineer “who will be part of a team working on next generation of a complex SoC design.” The hiring is specifically for the company’s Markham office in Canada. AMD’s Zen 2 architecture powers the PS5, as well as Xbox Series X/S. So, based on the mention of “next generation” design in the listing, it can be speculated that AMD could be looking at hiring chip designers for the next generation of consoles, primarily the PS5 Pro.
It should be noted that Sony has made no announcement about the release of the PS5 Pro as of yet. So, this report should be considered with a pinch of salt.
As mentioned earlier, Sony released the PS4 Pro right between the PS4 and PS5 release dates, with a gap of around three years between the consoles. Since the PS5 has already been around for over a year now, it can be expected that a PS5 Pro could be released in 2023.
