Cyberpunk 2077, back when it was released in December 2020, was a mess. It rode a fervent hype train seldom seen in the world of gaming, mostly thanks to its developer CD Projekt Red (who worked on the critically acclaimed and still popular The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt) and also due to the Covid-induced lockdowns which restricted gamers to their homes and itching for a new title to spend countless hours on. However, upon release, the game was nearly unplayable due to insane glitches and bad quality control, which eventually led to the game being delisted from some online marketplaces as well.

However, CD Projekt Red remained loyal to Cyberpunk 2077, it released consecutive bug fixes via OTA updates, making the game perform noticeably better. Today, if you play Cyberpunk 2077, especially with ray-tracing turned on a souped-up PC, it’s undoubtedly one of the most engaging first-person RPGs out there.

Now, Cyberpunk 2077 is set to get its first major expansion — Phantom Liberty — featuring a brand new story, a new district to explore called Dogtown, upgraded gameplay mechanics, a new skill tree, and more fluid vehicle combat.

Read on to find out everything you need to know about Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty Story, Gameplay

Phantom Liberty will follow protagonist V in a high-octane spy thriller, where you must take on insurmountable odds to save the NUS President. You will explore the shady district of Dogtown, and if early reviews are to be believed, you will be welcomed with a bombastic opening mission that will put many others to shame.

Joining Keanu Reeves’s Johnny Silverhand is fellow Hollywood superstar Idris Elba, who plays the tough-as-nails agent Solomon Reed. The story will have two different endings and an additional one that will wrap up the overall Cyberpunk 2077 story so far.

As mentioned earlier, CD Projekt Red has done some smart and handy changes to make sure the game runs smoother, and more “complete” when compared to current hits. Vehicular combat has been greatly enhanced, making it more GTA V-style, with some assists to make driving and shooting enemies an easier task on gamepads.

Fans of the game will be treated with a brand new skill tree style, which allows even more tweaks to suit personal gameplay styles. However, given the overall story of espionage-focused Phantom Liberty, stealth mechanics are given a slightly more favourable treatment.
