New Delhi: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, the next chapter in Activision’s annual first-person shooter franchise, is set to release on October 28. Developed by Infinity Ward, the same studio that brought the original Modern Warfare trilogy and the recent series reboot, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will see the return of a handful of series favourites, including Captain Price, Simon “Ghost” Riley, and John “Soap” MacTavish. Apart from an official blog post, the release date announcement was made via a drone-shot reveal video, posted on Twitter, which hinted at a further reveal on June 8.

On May 24, the official Call of Duty Twitter handle shared a video shot at the Port of Long Beach in California, US. It showed massive reveal posters set up on giant ships and containers in the port area. The posters on the video revealed some of the characters expected to make an appearance in the upcoming game, including Captain John Price, Sergeant Kyle “Gaz” Garrick, Sergeant “Soap” MacTavish, Simon “Ghost” Riley, and Colonel Alejandro Vargas.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 — June reveal date teased

If you look carefully, at around 45 seconds into the minute-long video, one of the containers had “J.8.22” etched on it. This hints at a future reveal of the game, possibly the Modern Warfare 2 gameplay trailer. This somewhat falls in line with an earlier leak that suggested the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 campaign gameplay trailer will be revealed on June 9.

Infinity Ward also said in its blog post that players will soon have a chance to “own a piece” of the revealed artwork “and be a part of our history.” It’s still too early to speculate what this means. We expect to get more clarity in the coming month.
