A post going viral on social media (here, here, and here) features renowned singer KJ Yesudas and his wife Prabha, claiming that he has converted to Hinduism from Christianity. Let’s verify the claim made in the post through this article.

Claim: Renowned singer KJ Yesudas has converted from Christianity to Hinduism.

Fact: There is no evidence to conclude that K.J. Yesudas has converted from Christianity to Hinduism. Although he visited the Sabarimala temple in Kerala on 21 September 2016, no other information supports the claim of his conversion. In the past, when similar rumours had circulated, his wife, Prabha Yesudas, denied them. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

A reverse image search of the keyframes from the viral image led us to a report (archive) in the Times of India Malayalam edition, dated 11 January 2023, featuring the same image. In the article, KJ Yesudas’s wife Prabha clarified that both of their daughters-in-law are Hindus and remained so even after marrying their sons. Nowhere in the report, it is mentioned that KJ Yesudas has converted from Christianity to Hinduism.

We found reports (here and here) from 2016 featuring K.J. Yesudas during his visit to the Sabarimala temple in Kerala on 21 September 2016. According to the reports, the temple traditionally plays Harivarasanam, sung by Yesudas, every evening after the final pooja. On that particular day, the authorities made an exception and invited Yesudas to sing it live for the deity. However, we found no evidence that K.J. Yesudas has converted to Hinduism.

In the past, similar rumours about his conversion from Christianity to Hinduism had circulated, but his wife, Prabha Yesudas, had denied them (here and here) (archive here and here).

To sum up, the viral claim that K.J. Yesudas has converted from Christianity to Hinduism is fake.
