May 3 marks that World Laughter Day this year to spread laughter all around the globe. It is believed that laughing helps to cure many problems that could be emotional or physical as 'Laughter is the best medicine.'
The first celebration was marked on May 10, 1998, in Mumbai and was arranged by Dr Madan Kataria, founder of the worldwide Laughter Yoga movement. Dr Kataria, a family doctor in India, was inspired to start the Laughter Yoga movement in part by the facial feedback hypothesis, which postulates that a person's facial expressions can have an effect on their emotions.
The main purpose of celebrating this day is to promote international laughter and to create awareness about its healing benefits through Laughter Clubs. It is a positive manifestation for world peace and is intended to build up a global consciousness of brotherhood and friendship through laughter.
