New Delhi: Sameer Khakhar, a veteran actor best known for playing Khopri in the television series Nukkad, passed away today on March 15. He was 71-year-old. In the 38 years of his acting career, he appeared in a number of TV episodes and movies. The actor had relocated to the United States after a brief hiatus from show business. Afterwards, he performed in two Gujarati plays and made a name for himself as the popular Jai Ho character in Salman Khan's movie.


The actor worked in both the film and television sectors. In addition to Nukkad, Manorajan, Circus, Naya Nukkad, Shrimaan Shrimati, and Adaalat, he has worked on several important television programmes. In the movie Sanjivani, which also starred Surbhi Chandna and Namit Khanna, he was last seen. His funeral service will take place today at 10 am at the Borivali Crematorium.


Talking to ABP News, Sameer's brother Ganesh Khakkar confirmed Sameer's death and informed about the reasons for his death.


Sameer Khakkar was having trouble breathing and was unwell for the last few days.


When he had breathing problem yesterday afternoon, he was admitted to MM Hospital in Borivali where he fainted and was admitted to the ICU.


Later, due to multiple organ failure, he died today at 4.30 am.


His last rites will be performed at the Babhai Naka cremation ground in Borivali.


The actor will be recalled for playing enduring roles in well-liked TV programmes and movies. Through acting in plays, he also contributed to Gujarati theatre.

 

Sameer also played character roles in many films like Parinda, Eena Meena Deeka, Dilwale, Raja Babu, Terror Hi Terror, Return of Jewel Teef, Shahanshaan, Awwal Number, Pyaye Deewana Hota Hai, Hum Hain Kamal Ke.
