New Delhi: Adah Sharma, who plays the protagonist in 'The Kerala Story,' is enjoying all the limelight as the film becomes a box-office success. The movie's content has caused it to become a hot topic of conversation. There have been demonstrations, negative reviews, and requests for a ban, yet the movie is still doing well at the box office. Adah Sharma detailed the reactions of her mother and grandma to her film in a recent interview.

Adah Sharma said she was nervous about showing her 90-year-old grandmother ‘The Kerala Story’ because of the movie's most disturbing scenes.

The actor said in an interview with DNA, "My mom and grandmom knew the story. I was nervous about granny's reaction, especially with those rape scenes. I was only concerned about how will she react to all those disturbing moments."

She added, “I admit that my 90-year-old granny is the strongest (member). After watching the movie, she called it an educational and informative experience and said, ‘I want all my students to watch it.’ I told her that it is an adult film, and then she suggested that it should have been a U/A film so that even younger girls should see it, be aware of it, and it will help them to be more vigilant.”

On May 5, 'The Kerala Story,' a movie about conversion that has polarised political discourse in the nation and resulted in bans in some areas and tax-free status in others, was released. The Vipul Shah-produced film 'The Kerala Story' tells the story of Kerala women who were coerced into joining the Islamic State (IS) and being converted.

Meanwhile, some political parties and organisations have spoken out against ‘The Kerala Story’, calling it propaganda and demanding that it be banned. Mamata Banerjee, chief minister of West Bengal, has banned the film out of fear for public safety. The film's success at the box office comes despite its controversial topic.

Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani, and Sonia Balani play the main characters in 'The Kerala Story'.
