New Delhi: Last year saw the launch of several high-profile reality shows on Indian television, be it Bigg Boss 12, India’s Got Talent 8 or Indian Idol 10. The leading GECs on the small screen tried their best to grab eyeballs on weekends by airing supernatural shows and reality shows. While some shows topped the charts, other fell flat and failed to strike a chord with the viewers. Here’s a look a reality shows of 2018 which couldn’t do well on the TRP charts.
Bigg Boss 12

Bigg Boss 11 proved to be a blockbuster season for Colors TV and Endemol. Bigg Boss 12 was launched with great expectations at 9pm slot instead of the late nigh 10:30pm slot but the twelfth season of the controversial reality failed to impress the fans. Although, BB 12 did create buzz on social media but the TRPs of the show were dismal. The show couldn’t generate a TRP of plus 2 on weekdays as it faced stiff competition from Kaun Banega Crorepati 10, Kumkum Bhagya and Kundali Bhagya. TV's popular bahu Dipika Kakar won
Dus Ka Dum 3

Before Bigg Boss 12, Salman Khan hosted Dus Ka Dum 3 on Sony Entertainment Television. The show returned to the small screen after a gap of nine years on June 4 but it couldn’t fetch impressive ratings. Despite Salman’s presence and much hype, the show was not successful in keeping the viewers hooked to their television sets. The channel had to shift DKD 3 to weekend slot after its poor performance on weekdays at 8:30pm slot. Although, the show did see a rise in its TRPs on weekend, it couldn’t repeat the success of previous seasons.
India’s Next Superstars

Star Plus launched India’s Next Superstars with great expectations on January 13 but the show failed to create any buzz. The talent search reality show was judged by Bollywood stalwarts Karan Johar and Rohit Shetty. The show proved to be a big disappointment despite offering something new to the viewers on their platter. Aman Gandotra and Natasha Bharadwaj emerged as the winners of the show.
Sabse Smart Kaun

Star Plus launched ‘Sabse Smart Kaun’ with Ravi Rubey as the show’s host on June 4 in early evening slot. The show replaced ‘Tu Suraj Main Sanjh Piyaji’ but it couldn’t do quite well on the ratings front. Although, the concept of the show was appreciated, the time slot didn’t work in the show’s favour.
Dil Hai Hindustani 2

While Indian Idol 10 topped the TRP charts, another singing reality show ‘Dil Hai Hindustani’ did average and managed to TRPs between 1-1.5. Although, the show was not a disaster like ‘India’s Next Superstars’ but still it failed to secure a place in top 20 shows till the time it was on-air. Ludhiana's boy Akshay Dhawan won the second season of the singing reality show.
