New Delhi: Ramanand Sagar's 1987 series 'Ramayan', featuring Arun Govil and Deepika Chikhalia in lead roles, recently made a comeback on Doordarshan amid Coronavirus lockdown. While the show is fetching amazing numbers for the channel, here comes a sad news for the show's fans. Actor Shyam Sundar Kalani, who rose to fame after playing the roles of 'Bali' & 'Sugriva' in 'Ramayan' is no more. Reportedly, he was suffering from cancer and breathed his last on April 6 in Kalka.

Shyam Sundar's 'Ramayan' co-star Arun Govil, who played the role of lord Ram in the show, took to his social media account today (April 9) to mourn his death. He tweeted, "Sad to know about demise of Mr. Shyam Sundar who played the role of Sugreev in Ramanand Sagar’s “Ramayan”... A very fine person and a gentleman. May his soul rest in peace."

Actor Sunil Lahri, who played 'Laxman', posted a heartfelt note for Shaym Sundar Kalani on Twitter. He wrote, "Very sad and sorry to hear sudden demise of our colleague Mr Shyam Kalani who played role of sugriv and Bali with us in Ramayan God give peace to his soul and strength to his family to face irrecoverable loss.... RIP"


On the career front, Shyam Sundar Kalani also played the role of 'Bheem' in 'Mahabharata'. He also worked in films like 'Heer Ranjha', 'Trimurti' and 'Chaila Babu'.

This is indeed a tough time for his family. We hope his family members gather strength to cope up with the loss.
