Smriti announced the good news by sharing a picture on her Instagram account in which the couple is holding each other's hand and there is an engagement ring in her hand. Making their engagement official, Smriti captioned the image as, "I am yours and you are mine. From today, till the end of time!! #itsofficial ❤️"

Speaking about her engagement to an entertainment portal, an elated Smriti said, "We are here in Goa to celebrate Gautam’s birthday (which was yesterday, 13 April), and he just swept me off my feet with this lovely surprise. We started dating after Meri Aashiqui got over and I think its magical how we connected and found love. Our families are really excited and it is an amazing feeling."

When probed about about her marriage plans, the actress told Tellychakkar that, "We haven’t really spoken about it. Being in a committed relationship, marriage has always been in our mind. Once we are back with our families, we will figure out a date soon."
Smriti and Gautam met each other on the sets of their show ‘Meri Aashiqui Tumse Hi’. Smriti used to play the role of antagonist 'Ritika' whereas Gautam played the role of lead character Ishani's (Radhika Madan) brother 'Sharman' in the show. After the show wrapped up in 2016, the couple start spending time together and came close to each other after which they realised that they are made for each other.
