Kapil Sharma recently became India’s highest-paid television personality, overtaking previous top earner Rupali Ganguly. Despite his success today, the journey wasn’t always smooth for this celebrated comedian and actor even after his television show’s success. At one point, a foray into film production left Kapil bankrupt, pushing him into a dark period of his life.
Kapil Sharma on going bankrupt after producing two films
During a recent episode of the ‘Feel It In Your Soul’ podcast, Kapil opened up about his struggles in Mumbai and his rise to stardom. Reflecting on his early days, he shared how he arrived in the city with just Rs 1,200 and at times could barely afford one meal a day.
Kapil then described how his attempt at producing two films led to a complete depletion of his bank balance. "Mera dimaag kharab hogaya. Maine do filmein bana diya (I lost my mind and produced two films)," he admitted.
He continued in Punjabi, explaining, “I had a lot of money and thought I could just become a producer with it. But being a producer is about more than money—it requires a specific mindset and training. I ended up wasting a lot of money, and my bank balance hit zero."
Kapil made his Bollywood debut with 2105 film 'Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon'. He produced the 2017 film 'Firangi’ which starred Kapil and Ishita Dutta.
