Actress and former Kannada ‘Big Boss’ contestant Chaitra Kotturu attempted suicide on Thursday (April 8) by consuming phenyl at her house in Kolar. She was rushed to a local hospital after she tried to end her life. Her condition is said to be stable now, a report in IANS said.


Chaitra tied the knot with Mandya-based businessman Nagarjuna a few days ago, a police official told the news agency. Her marriage was called off as Nagarjuna’s family refused to accept their relationship. The report further said that Nagarjuna himself has alleged that he was ‘forced’ by some groups to get married even though he was not interested in the marriage.


Last month, a picture from Kotturu and Nagarjuna’s temple wedding went viral. The actress was reportedly in a relationship with Nagarjuna since the past few years, a police official said.


Chaitra got hitched to Nagarjuna at Byatarayanapura Ganapathi temple in the presence of her loved ones. The groom’s family accused the actress of forcefully marrying him by issuing threats.


"The matter reached the police station in Kolar. We had called both the families to the station for their statements," the police was quoted as saying by the news agency.


The report also said that Chaitra was reportedly not allowed to step inside Nagarjuna's ancestral house as his family had allegedly asked them not to enter the home, terming their marriage as ‘invalid’, Karnataka police said quoting actress’ statement.


The police further that Chaitra accused her husband of delaying their wedding. The couple decided to get married with the support of her family members and community leaders.


"His family had bad-mouthed me, my job and even issued death threats to me if I did not let him go. So we requested to hold talks in Kolar instead of discussing the issue in public," she told the police.


Chaitra Kotturu participated in Bigg Boss Kannada 7. She penned scripts for serials before entering the reality show, which was hosted by Kiccha Sudeep. She played a supporting role in ‘Soojidaara’.
