New Delhi: In a sudden turn of events, veteran actress Surekha Sikri has been admitted to a hospital in Mumbai after she suffered a brain stroke on Tuesday. According to the reports, the 75-year-old National award-winning actress is currently in the ICU and is stable.

Surekha Sikri has been suffering with minor paralysis post first brain stroke in 2018. The actress had reportedly fell in the bathroom and hit her head while shooting in Mahabaleshwar. Though she has been recovering since then, the actress was seen less on screens post illness.

Famous for playing the character of grandmother in various TV serials and films, the veteran actress made her debut in 1978 with the political drama "Kissa Kursi Ka", and carved her space with some unforgettable roles in films, television and theatre.

Last year in December, Sikri was honoured with National Film Award in the category of Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of a nagging grandma in 'Badhaai Ho'. During the ceremony, Sikri had arrived on a wheelchair to accept her award and thanked the writers of the unconventional entertainer which is about a grown-up son dealing with society when his parents tell him they are expecting a child. The film featured Ayushmann Khurrana, Sanya Malhotra, Neena Gupta and Gajraj Rao.

This was the third time she bagged a National Award. She won the first National Film Award for 'Tamas' in 1988 as the Best Supporting Actress. Her second award, the one before 'Badhaai Ho' this year, was for film 'Mammo' in 1995.

Surekha Sikri was also seen in an important role of 'Kalyani Devi' aka 'Dadi sa' on the Colors popular TV show 'Balika Vadhu'. She was last seen in Netflix's anthology Ghost Stories directed by Zoya Akhtar starring Jahnvi Kapoor.
