New Delhi: Zee TV show ‘Amma- Ek Maa Jo Lakhon Ke liye Bani Amma’ was in news since the day it got started. Few days ago, it was again in the controversies as the lead actress Raina Joshi aka Urvashi Sharma quit the show.

Actress said that she didn’t look that old to continue to play the role after the leap. Several names were being taken as to who will play the new Amma. According to a leading news daily, veteran actress Shabana Azmi has been roped to play this role.

Shabana Azmi has been brought on board to play the role after the leap. This would be Shabana Azmi’s TV debut, though before this she did a cameo in Anil Kapoor’s 24. But this will be full-fledged role.

The kind of role Shabana Azmi will play in this serial is similar to the role she played in bollywood film ‘Godmother’ in 1990.

Talking about the similarity, Shabana Azmi said “The only similarities are that they are both mafia dons and they get into this role after the death of their husbands. While Godmother was more politically inclined and motivated, 'Amma' is more like a Robin Hood.”
