New Delhi: The sudden demise of Sridevi came as a shock for everyone, her charismatic persona onscreen and offscreen will be remembered for decades to come. She started acting as a child artist at the age of 4 in a Tamil film and by the age of 13 she established herself as one of the leading actresses of South Indian Cinema. Her starring role in Solva Sawan in 1979 Bollywood cinema. She worked on 300 films, that’s how much the audience loved her.

Himmatwala (1983): Four years after the starring Solva Sawan, Sridevi starred in Himmatwala opposite Jeetendra. This film is a remake of the Telugu film Ooruki Monagadu (1981) and it is considered to be a breakthrough in her career. It also established Sridevi as one of the best dancing actors in the country. The romantic-comedy film was the highest grossing film of the year 1983.

Sadma (1983): The romantic drama in which she starred opposite Kamal Haasan was showed her artistic prowess. The film was about young woman who regresses to childhood as result of retrograde amnesia after suffering a head injury in a car crash. She ends up trapped in a brothel before being rescued a lonely school teacher who falls in love with her. The film was nominated for 3 Filmfare awards, including best actress.
Nagina (1986): Through this film Sridevi was one of those rare actresses who bagged a movie franchise the movie continued to a sequel. While being a cult classic, the movie is also considered a progressive, female driven films. Sridevi also set the benchmark for Nagin characters and it was the second film which became the highest grosser of the year 1986.

Mr. India (1987): It is loved by boomers and millennials alike; in the film she acts opposite Anil Kapoor. Even though the film is about Anil Kapoor’s character, Sridevi’s portrayal of Seema was undeniably memorable. Her wit and sensuality both were visible in this film, her iconic golden dress and her blue sari were the other reason to remember this film and which set her as a style icon.

ChaalBaaz (1989): Cast with double roles, in the movie Sridevi had to portray twin sisters who were separated at birth. She had to play opposite characters, one who was street smart and witty the other abused and terrified. Sridevi pulled off both roles with absolute precision and received Best Actress Filmfare award.
English Vinglish (2012): After a hiatus, Sridevi made a huge comeback with English Vinglish, in which she played a housewife who enrolls in an English-speaking course after her husband and daughter's mocking of her English skills. The film and Sridevi's performance received positive response and showed that the witty, charismatic actor had matured acting skills.


Mom (2017): Her last film marked the 300th film of her career, she played a mother who sets out to avenge the rape of her daughter. This film did take and emotional toll on her, she said that she found it hard to be in a normal state during the filming. She was posthumously awarded the National Film Award for Best Actress for the film, which was received by her daughters on her behalf.
Sridevi was one of those gifted actors who was unique blend of beauty, talent and heart. She left her fans a string of film through which she will be remembered for years to come.
