The news of Pakistani singer Meesha Shafi facing 3 years jail term after accusing Ali Zafar of sexual harassment broke out yesterday. According to a report of Mail Online, Meesha faced the three-years jail term after singer and actor Ali Zafar file criminal defamation charge against her. Shafi alleged during the #MeToo movement in 2018 that the ‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan’ actor harassed her sexually.
This news created a wave on social media and now, the Pakistani singer had finally responded after facing the 3-years jail term. She took to her Instagram and shared a screenshot which talks about ‘misreporting’.
Meesha wrote while sharing, “Another day Another disinformation campaign Speaking up is been harder than being harassed. This is why so many suffer in silence. Sending strength and solidarity to all those who speak up and risk their present to make way for a better future for all.”
Meesha’s statement from 2018 read, “I have been subjected, on more than one occasion, to sexual harassment of a physical nature at the hands of a colleague from my industry: Ali Zafar. These incidences did not happen when I was young, or just entering the industry. This happened to me even though I am an empowered, accomplished woman who is known for speaking her mind! This happened to me as a mother of two children.”
Meanwhile, Ali Zafar denied all the claims and filed the defamation case against Meesha Shafi. He revealed in a statement, “I categorically deny all claims of harassment lodged against me by Ms Shafi. I intend to take this through the courts of law and to address this professionally and seriously rather than to lodge any allegations here, contesting personal vendettas on social media and in turn disrespecting the movement, my family, the industry and my fans. Ultimately I am a strong believer that the truth always prevails.”
On a related note, Ali Zafar filed a defamation suit worth Rs 100 crore against Meesha Shafi at a district court.
