New Delhi: Only a few days before its release, Mammootty's upcoming movie, 'Bramayugam' has sparked controversy. A court case filed by Punjamon Illam forced the renaming of the character played by Mammootty in the movie. The character, who was formerly known as Punjamon or Kunjamon Potti and engaged in evil magic, was allegedly tarnishing the reputation of the family.

Legal Case Against Mammootty starrer Bramayugam

The character's name has been changed to Kodumon Potti by the makers in accordance with the Kerala High Court's judgment. As per the reports, Punjamon Illam filed a court case stating that the character played by Mammootty in 'Bramayugam' is named Punjamon or Kunjamon Potti, and is depicted as engaging in the malevolent practice of dark magic. Because their family name is at risk, the family has petitioned the Kerala High Court to have the name removed.

According to the petition, no one from the movie crew spoke with the family about the subject matter of the movie. The Punjamon Illam family went on to say that such an attempt to discredit the family in society had been made on purpose.

About Bramayugam

Rahul Sadasivan has directed 'Bramayugam', a Malayalam horror film that takes place in the 18th century and is produced by YNOT Studios and Night Shift Studios. In addition to Mammootty, the film has Amalda Liz, Siddharth, and Arjun Ashokan in significant parts.

The film's trailer, which was released last week, quickly gained popularity thanks to its striking images and casting of Mammootty as an elderly feudal lord with a fondness for dark magic. This horror thriller takes place during the "dark age of madness."

At the trailer launch event in Abu Dhabi, Mammootty had asked fans and moviegoers to watch the film with an open mind.

“I have a request to all of you who are planning to watch the movie. While the trailer may have sparked various ideas, I urge you not to jump to conclusions about the story. I am saying this so that you are not disappointed [that the original narrative is different from your assumptions]. Watch the film without preconceived notions and refrain from anticipating the emotions it is going to elicit in you, as it can affect your viewing experience when the predictions come true.”Mammootty said at the event.
