Veteran actor Rajinikanth has been admitted to the Apollo Hospital in Chennai late Monday, according to sources cited by PTI. Rajinikanth is likely to undergo a heart-related procedure on Tuesday.
According to PTI sources, Rajinikanth is in stable condition. However, neither his family nor the hospital has issued an official statement yet.
In 2020, Rajinikanth was hospitalised in Hyderabad due to "severe hypertension and exhaustion." He was discharged on December 27 after his blood pressure stabilised, with doctors advising him to take a week’s rest. Apollo Hospitals in Hyderabad had released a statement at that time.
Rajinikanth opens up about his health challenges
Last year, at an event in Chennai, Rajinikanth opened up about the health challenges he had faced over the past few years. He mentioned experiencing multiple health issues and expressed dissatisfaction with his treatment during that time.
"In 2010 I met Ravichandran and I consider it a lucky day in my life. I don't want to name the other hospital, where I was admitted for multiple problems. But, kidney problem was the main. I was not happy with their treatment, so I started consulting Ravichandran. At that time, my kidney was almost 60 per cent damaged. He kept me on medication but after a point, he said I needed transplantation," Rajinikanth said.
In 2016, Rajinikanth underwent a renal transplant, and by the end of 2017, he announced his long-awaited entry into politics.
"When I wanted to enter politics, unexpectedly you know Covid happened. I was immunosuppressant, I was taking medication. I have already committed to politics and the second wave of Covid has started. But, my doctor said he would not allow me to take part in campaigning. If I should go to politics, he asked me to maintain 10 feet distance and never remove my mask. How are these things possible? How do I say it to others? If I say, people will say I got afraid of politics. I started worrying about my reputation," the actor said.
