New Delhi: ‘Kanchana 4’ is in the making. As Raghava Lawrence announces his return to direct and produce another sequel of the 'Muni' films, fans' excitement has topped another level. As the makers announced the shooting of the fourth film from the Kanchana franchise, here is a look at everything we know about the film, cast details and more.

As makers announced the shoot of ‘Kanchana 4’ with a special poster on social media, we now know that Raghava Lawrence will be returning to the director-writer and producer’s chair for the horror comedy.

As per a Pinkvilla report, Kanchana 4’s script work has begun. While the makers’ announcement tells us about the shoot commencement of the film in September, it is also being reported that ‘Kanchana 4’ will be released in the summer of 2025.


About Kanchana franchise


The Tamil horror-comedy franchise began in 2011 with ‘Kanchana’ as a sequel, second installment, to Lawrence's previous venture 'Muni'(2007). The film made on a shoestring budget became a blockbuster and was also remade into different regional languages. 


In Kannada, 'Kanchana' was remade as 'Kalpana', in Sinhala as 'Maya', in Bengali as 'Mayabini' and in Hindi, as 'Laxmi'.


Kanchana followed the story of Raghava, who develops an irrational  phasmophobia and refuses to leave his house after sunset. He chooses to sleep outside his mother's room, forces her to accompany him to the bathroom at night.His behaviour worries the family until much later when supernatural occurences at their residence wreack havoc.Raghava is possessed by a ghost and what happens afterwards is what makes 'Kanchana' a fun horror comedy, massively popular among kids and adults alike.


After the success of ‘Kanchana’, ‘Kanchana 2’ and ‘Kanchana 3’ were also released in 2011 and 2015 respectively. Both films broke several Tamil film box office records and collected more than Rs. 100 cr at the box office; with its lion’s share from the Nadu market.
