Tamil actor Dhanush and filmmaker Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth are officially divorced now after nearly two decades of marriage. According to reports from Sun TV and News18, the Chennai Family Welfare Court has granted the couple a divorce after they stated they could no longer live together. The divorce proceedings had previously been delayed, with the case being heard three times without attendance from either party.
Dhanush and Aishwaryaa, who tied the knot in 2004, share two sons, Yatra and Linga. Although they have chosen to separate, the couple resides near each other in Chennai’s Poes Garden and continues to co-parent their children. Both frequently post pictures with their sons on social media.
The couple announced separation in 2022
The couple first announced their separation on January 17, 2022. Dhanush shared a message on X (formerly Twitter), writing:“18 years of togetherness as friends, couple, as parents and well-wishers to each other. The journey has been one of growth, understanding, adjustment, and adaptation. Today, we stand at a place where our paths separate.”
Aishwaryaa echoed a similar sentiment in her own statement.
Dhanush's legal dispute with Nayanthara
Amidst the personal developments, Dhanush has also found himself embroiled in a legal battle with actor Nayanthara. The dispute arose when Nayanthara included a behind-the-scenes clip from her 2015 film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in her Netflix wedding documentary, Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale. The film was produced by Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films.

Reports suggest that Dhanush had refused to grant permission for the use of the footage and sent a legal notice demanding ₹10 crore in damages. Dhanush filed a civil suit against Nayanthara, her husband, filmmaker Vignesh Sivan, and their production company Rowdy Pictures Private Limited. The suit, submitted to the Madras High Court, alleges unauthorised use of visuals from the movie.
The court has scheduled the next hearing, during which Nayanthara and Vignesh will be required to respond to the legal notice.
