Singer Justin Timberlake was arrested in Sag Harbor, New York, on charges of driving under the influence, the police said. The singer-actor was released from custody after being arraigned in Sag Harbor, on the eastern end of Long Island, according to a statement from the Suffolk County district attorney’s office.
A spokesperson for the Sag Harbor Police Department told PEOPLE that as of Tuesday morning, the singer is still in custody. An official statement from the police is expected later today.
According to CBS News, Justin Timberlake was apprehended in Sag Harbor, a coastal village in the Hamptons, around 100 miles (160 kilometres) from New York City. It is a well-known summer retreat for celebrities on Long Island.
Timberlake, who is currently preparing for a world tour to promote his sixth album, ‘Everything I Thought It Was’, was taken into custody at the time of the arrest. According to PEOPLE, he was arrested on DWI charges after having dinner at the American Hotel in Sag Harbor. The singer was pulled over after leaving the place to drive to his friend's house.
