New Delhi: Ranveer Singh’s movie ‘83’ released in theatres today (December 24, 2021). The actor can be witnessed playing the role of former Indian cricket team captain Kapil Dev in this movie. The movie illustrates the journey of the 1983 World Cup win for Indian cricket team.


Ranveer Singh, who plays the lead role in this movie, shared a post on his Instagram where his mother can be seen holding the ‘actual cup’ of 1983 World Cup.


Sharing the post on his Instagram, Ranveer Singh wrote, “Hum jeet gaye, Mumma! (ps: that’s the actual cup!)”.



‘83’ has been directed by Kabir Khan and produced by Deepika Padukone, Kabir Khan, Sheetal Vinod Talwar, Vishnuvardhan Induri, Sajid Nadiadwala, Reliance Entertainment and 83 Film Ltd. Deepika Padukone can also be seen playing the role of Kapil Dev’s wife Romi in the movie.


Other than Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone, ‘83’ also features Pankaj Tripathi, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Jiiva, Saqib Saleem, Jatin Sarna, Chirag Patil, Dinker Sharma, Nishant Dahiya, Harrdy Sandhu, Sahil Khattar, Ammy Virk, Adinath Kothare, Dhairya Karwa and R Badree in pivotal roles.


Ranveer Singh’s co-star from his upcoming movie ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’ Alia Bhatt also heaped praises for the actor after attending the special premiere of ‘83’. She wrote in one of her Instagram stories, “Tuts! Kaps! What to say. I mean. What are you? Some sort of genius mixture wrapped in with some loaded feeling peppered with magic every few seconds! I've said this to you before- your eyes changed!!! You don't act- you live the character! Can't do can't do- you're too good please go to sleep for years so we can all catch up with your brilliance. Actor to actor. Thank you for you!”


Karan Johar also penned down a long note for Ranveer Singh’s ‘83’ and wrote, “It’s not easy to tell a true story … an actual account of a milestone event in Indian Sport History! There is no room for cinematic licenses and distortion of facts for dramatic impact… which is exactly why #83thefilm is such a monumental achievement …. It sucks you into that year… that World Cup , that team , that political climate , that mad fandom frenzy… I saw myself rooting for every member of that historic team… Laughing and crying with each one of them … I saw myself rooting for Kabir Khan and his maestro ability of story telling….
