New Delhi: Popular comedian-actor Raju Srivastava, who is in hospital after a heart attack on August 10, continues to remain in the ICU on life support but there is a slight improvement in his health.
Srivastava was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi after he suffered a heart attack on August 10. The 58-year-old stand-up comic underwent an angioplasty the same day.
"Raju's condition is slowly getting better. He is responding to the treatment. There is an improvement in his health and he can now move his body parts a bit.
"He continues to remain in the ICU and on ventilator. Doctors have informed that it will take about a week for him to regain consciousness," the artist's manager Nayan Soni told PTI.
Last week, Srivastava's family released a statement on his official Instagram page, saying his condition was "stable" and requested people to "ignore any rumour/fake news being circulated".
The statement read, "Dear all Raju Srivatava ji's condition is stable. We are praying for his speedy recovery. The doctors are treating him and are doing their best. Thanks to all the well-wishers for their continued love and support. Please ignore any rumour/fake news being circulated. Please pray for him (sic)."
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also telephoned Raju Srivastava's wife Shikha last week to enquire about his health and offered support.
Raju Srivastav has carved a niche for himself in the world of stand-up comedy with his well-timed jokes and comic takes on some very relevant situations in life. He rose to fame with the first of its kind stand-up comedy talent hunt show 'The Great Indian Laughter Challenge', with its first season premiering in the year 2005
He has appeared in Hindi films such as "Maine Pyar Kiya", "Baazigar", "Bombay to Goa" (remake) and "Aamdani Atthani Kharcha Rupaiya". He was one of the contestants on "Bigg Boss" season three.
