New Delhi: Netflix drama 'The Crown' based on the life of Queen Elizabeth II, has paused the production for a brief period of time following the Queen's death who breathed her last on Thursday, September 8, 2022.

The series that has already aired four seasons on the digital streaming platform, is in its final season of production. Written by Peter Morgan, 'The Crown' chronicles the life and reign of Queen Elizabeth II, the longest reigning monarch in British history and the longest reigning female head of any state, in history. As per a Reuters report, the streaming service said production was suspended "as a mark or respect" for the monarch, who died Thursday at age 96 after 70 years on the throne. Filming will also be stopped on the day of the queen's funeral, Netflix said.

In Netflix’s popular series ‘The Crown’, three actresses played Queen Elizabeth to portray different stages of her life. Claire Foy in seasons one and two, Olivia Colman in seasons three and four, and Imelda Staunton for the last two seasons.

Claire Foy became an overnight star after her portrayal of the younger version of the Queen. Her role showcased the monarch’s early years of ruling the UK, her marriage to Prince Philip, and the birth of her four children. She won an Emmy Award for her nuanced performance.
