New Delhi: Diwali is not just a grand Indian festival in our subcontinent. The festival of lights has also created an indelible mark across the world. Recently, the New York City Mayor announced that Diwali would be a public holiday from 2023. This gesture received quite a positive response from the Indian demographic of the United States. Indian actress Priyanka Chopra also shared her excitement about the Diwali holiday announcement on her official social media handle.
Taking to Instagram, Priyanka wrote, "After all these years! My teenage self living in Queens is crying tears of joy. Representation matters!” Priyanka Chopra has attended schools in New York, Newton, Massachusetts, Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Queens. Although Priyanka is married to Nick Jonas, she celebrates each Indian festival with a lot of zeal as we constantly see from the pictures she shares on her social media handle.
Priyanka also wished her cousin, actor Parineeti Chopra on her birthday with an Instagram story picture which was captioned, "Happiest of birthdays, Tisha! Miss celebrating you this year, love you.”
Earlier, Priyanka Chopra was invited to the Women Leadership Forum by the Democratic National Committee to interview the US Vice President Kamala Harris. Among other things, Priyanka had spoken about marriage equality, equal pay among global issues like Russia's war on Ukraine.
Priyanka had begun her conversation with Kamala Harris with, "I think we’re both daughters of India, in a way...You’re a proud American-born daughter of an Indian mom and a Jamaican father. I am an Indian born of two physicians as parents and a recent immigrant to this country who totally still believes in the wholehearted, you know, American Dream."
Meanwhile, on the work front, Priyanka Chopra has 'Citadel' with the Russo Brothers and her highly-anticipated Bollywood movie 'Jee Le Zaraa' in the pipeline.
