New Delhi: The most recent historical drama by director Mani Ratnam, "Ponniyin Selvan 1" or "PS: 1," keeps breaking box office records. The movie made a fortune at the box office and had a fantastic debut in southern areas. Along with that the film has been doing quite well in Hindi too and continues to achieve new milestones every weekend.


The lifetime earnings of 'The Kashmir Files', the second-highest-grossing Hindi movie of the year, have now been surpassed by the historical drama starring Aishwarya Rai, Vikram, Karthi, Trisha, and Jayam Ravi. The film has collected Rs 355 crore worldwide, which is higher than the gross worldwide collection of The Kashmir Files ( Rs 340 crore).


According to a report in Indian Express, the film did significantly better than anticipated on its second weekend and made Rs 1.50 crore, increasing its total (in Hindi) to Rs 16.50 crore, on Day 9. A lifetime collection of Rs 25 crore is anticipated for the movie's Hindi version.

Ponniyin Selvan-I, based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 historical fiction book of the same name, tells the tale of the youth of Arulmozhivarman, a strong southern ruler who later rose to become Rajaraja Chola I, played by Jayam Ravi. In the second part, he is anticipated to have a larger role.


To bring a message from Crown Prince Aditha Karikalan, Vandiyathevan sets out to traverse the Chola territory. As vassals and minor chieftains conspire to assassinate the crown, Kundavai tries to bring about political harmony. A long-tailed comet enters the sky, heralding a period of unrest, and the nation is in turmoil.


The much-awaited movie received favourable reviews from viewers. Ponniyin Selvan-I, which was supported by Allirajah Subaskaran's production company Lyca Productions, has been made available in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. The film's soundtrack was composed by music legend AR Rahman, while Ravi Varman handled the photography.
