New Delhi: In the forthcoming historical drama 'Ponniyin Selvan 2', Trisha Krishnan is scheduled to reprise her role as Kundavai. She received a great deal of appreciation for her depiction as Ilaya Pirattiyar, the princess of the Chola kingdom, in the first installment as she made an impression on screen with her brains and beauty. Trisha disclosed the identity of the person she was instructed to emulate in order to portray her character accurately in a recent interview. And it was none other than the late J. Jayalalithaa, chief minister of Tamil Nadu.

The second installment of the two-part epic opus, which was directed by Mani Ratnam, will be released in theatres on April 28. Trisha has a big role in the movie, which demonstrates how her Kundavai character had a significant part in determining the fate of the Chola empire.

Talking about the brief Mani Ratnam had given her, Trisha told Film Companion's Anupama Chopra in an interview, "He (Mani) said, ‘think of her’. Because we are all from Chennai, we have literally grown up seeing her, watching her films, how she was as the CM. He said, ‘stop being Trisha, think of her'. How she walks, how she talks, she is always a little bit on guard. She doesn’t let her emotions come up because that's how Kundavai needs to be. So actually I did start thinking (about her) because I have watched so much of her, her videos, her films, the way she speaks. And he wanted that and it actually did help. You kind of know… all of us know how she walks, her body language, how she talks…she is always the queen."

Trisha concurred with Karthi when he noted that Jaya's intelligence was always apparent. “Wherever she is, she is always in command. You can feel it,” he said.

Along with her fellow co-stars Aishwarya Rai, Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Sobhita Dhulipala, and Aishwarya Lekshmi, as well as the film's composer AR Rahman and director Mani Ratnam, Trisha is now promoting Ponniyin Selvan 2. The movie will pick up where the first half left off, with the title character nearly dying in the sea and being saved by a silent queen (Aishwarya Rai).
