New Delhi: One of the most anticipated movies this year is Mani Ratnam's ‘Ponniyin Selvan 1’ released on September 30. Starring Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Trisha, Vikram, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, among others, the film opened to roughly Rs 80 crore on Friday, making it the most grossing Tamil film ever in a single weekend at the worldwide box office. The film is competing against Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan's ‘Vikram Vedha’ at the global box office. Though, the crime thriller was unable to have an outstanding collection.

The global box office total for PS1 has reportedly already topped Rs 150 crore, according to industry analysts. Ramesh Bala, a trade expert, said on Twitter that Ponniyin Selvan 1 had made Rs 150 crore thus far. Furthermore, he said that the film's gross in the United States has already reached $3 million.

The film ‘Ponniyin Selvan 1’ was released in several languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam, and the film is getting a lot of positive feedback.

‘Ponniyin Selvan 1’ is an adaptation of the book Ponniyin Selvan, which was written by Kalki Krishnamurthy in 1955. Mani Ratnam had the idea for quite some time to adapt the best-selling novel into a movie, and in 2022, he was finally given the opportunity to do it. The film's debut has been met with acclaim and praise.

The first installment of the two-part film tells an outstanding narrative that is based on the early years of the life of prince Arun Mozhi Varman, who subsequently became famous as the renowned Raja Raja Chozhan. The production of the film is one of the costliest endeavours that have ever been attempted.
