On Friday, Microsoft users globally, including many in India, experienced significant service outages. Outage tracking website Downdetector showed users reporting disruptions across various Microsoft services. The global Microsoft cloud outage resulted in US airlines canceling flights. However, the tech giant later announced that its cloud services outage in the Central US region had been resolved.

The outage is being attributed to a new update from Crowdstrike, a cybersecurity software firm, which has affected Windows-based desktops and laptops. As a result, Microsoft, Crowdstrike, and Windows are trending on X (formerly known as Twitter). Users on Downdetector reported issues with several Microsoft services, including Azure and Teams.

The glitch is causing users to encounter Blue Screen of Death error messages, with widespread reports of disruptions affecting international airlines, banks, and media outlets.

Netizens reminded of Julia Roberts' film after Microsoft outage

The Microsoft outage, though temporary, provided a real-world glimpse into a digital disconnect. Millions were left unable to access email, cloud storage, and other essential tools, experiencing a disruption that, while minor, mirrored the sense of powerlessness depicted in Julia Robets' Netflix film 'Leave the World Behind.'

The film explores the nightmarish scenario of a complete societal collapse triggered by a technological breakdown. As Amanda and her family grapple with dwindling resources and a growing sense of paranoia, the film compels us to consider how reliant we have become on a system we barely comprehend.

Julia Roberts' Film 'Leave The World Behind'

Directed by Sam Esmail, "Leave the World Behind" masterfully weaves a complex tale that brings forth relationships and their nuances, vulnerability, and the fragility of our hyper-connected world. As the server failure spreads globally, the family, along with their hosts, struggles to comprehend the magnitude of the crisis, leading to a poignant exploration of human resilience and the true meaning of connection.

'Leave the World Behind' throws viewers into the chaos of a seemingly idyllic family vacation gone wrong. Amanda (Roberts) and Clay, along with their teenage children, arrive at a secluded rental house for a relaxing getaway. Their peace is shattered when the homeowners, George (Mahershala Ali) and Ruth (Myha'la Herrold), return unexpectedly, shaken and cryptic. Communication with the outside world abruptly ceases – no internet, no phone signal. The families are left stranded, desperately trying to piece together what caused this sudden isolation and the nature of the unseen disaster unfolding beyond their remote haven.

The film's protagonist, played by Julia Roberts, is a harried mother trying to keep her family safe and connected in a world that's rapidly falling apart. Her character's desperation and fear are palpable, echoing the sentiments of many who have experienced the frustration and helplessness of a technological meltdown. As the story unfolds, the audience is forced to confront the darker aspects of reliance on technology and the devastating consequences of a global shutdown.

'Leave the World Behind' serves as a thought-provoking commentary on our increasingly interconnected world and the vulnerabilities that come with it. The film's chilling portrayal of a global shutdown has resonated with audiences, prompting a renewed appreciation for the fragility of our technological infrastructure.
