New Delhi: Imtiaz Ali's latest directorial masterpiece, 'Amar Singh Chamkila', will release on the occasion of Baisakhi on the streaming platform Netflix. Scheduled for premiere on April 12, the film promises to delve deep into the untold true story of Panjab’s original rockstar, Amar Singh Chamkila, hailed as the "Elvis Presley of Panjab."

Written and directed by the acclaimed filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, the movie stars Diljit Dosanjh in the titular role of Chamkila, alongside Parineeti Chopra portraying Amarjot, Chamkila’s wife and singing partner. The film marks a significant collaboration as it reunites Ali with maestro AR Rahman for the music, with Irshad Kamil penning the poignant lyrics, nine years after their last venture together.

One of the film's standout tracks, "Ishq Mitaye," sung by Mohit Chauhan, blends traditional and modern beats to narrate the dramatic rise of Chamkila as Panjab's iconic music star, has been released today.

According to Rahman, "When you make a story about a musician from Panjab, in such a musically rich state of India, it's always something special." He further elaborated on the unique approach taken, likening certain aspects to a Broadway musical, and praised Diljit's multifaceted talent. Parineeti, he noted, was a joy to work with, bringing her own charm and talent to the project.

Imtiaz Ali expressed his excitement about delving into the heart of Panjabi music through the lens of Chamkila's life. He emphasized the use of traditional musical styles and instruments, along with Irshad Kamil's expertise in crafting contemporary yet authentic lyrics. The director highlighted the significance of casting Diljit and Parineeti, enabling live-on-location recordings that capture the essence of Chamkila and Amarjot's musical journey.

Produced by Mohit Choudhary, Select Media Holdings LLP, Saregama, and Window Seat Films, "Amar Singh Chamkila" promises to captivate audiences worldwide with its captivating storytelling and soul-stirring music. The film's soundtrack, featuring six original Hindi songs sung by a stellar lineup of artists, including Diljit and Parineeti, alongside on-location recordings, adds an authentic touch to the cinematic experience.
