The 94th Academy Awards paid a tribute to artists and filmmakers of the global film industry who died last year. Late stars Sidney Poitier, Betty White and Ivan Reitman received emotional tributes at the Oscars on Sunday night before the opening of the annual 'In Memoriam' segment.

The segment, however, failed to honour the work and memory of two late iconic Bollywood legends Dilip Kumar and singer Lata Mangeshkar.

BAFTA Awards 2022: A Special Tribute To Lata Mangeshkar And Dilip Kumar Makes Fans Emotional

Dilip Kumar had left for heavenly abode on July 7 last year(2021), Lata Mangeshkar passed on February 6, 2022. Both personalities had recently received an emotional obituary at the BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) earlier this month.

And the absence of two of Indian cinema's giants from the 2022 Oscars ceremony was a glaring one, especially after the British Academy Film and Television Awards (BAFTA) honoured Mangeshkar and Kumar earlier this month.

Many fans have expressed anger and dissapointment on social media.

One Twitter user claimed that Lata gave vocals to more songs than “shown in all Oscars combined,  tet, the #Oscars2022 #Inmemoriam did not see it fit to honor her even with a mention. Sometimes, I think, colonialism still lives on…”

Another user shared: "#LataMangeshkar of Indian Cinema #Bollwoodfame - Nightingale of India - not even mentioned among memorium of the movie folks who passed away in the last year #WTF1 #Oscars2022 #Oscar #Oscars #AcademyAward."

Earlier, the Oscars had featured late actors- Irrfan Khan, Sushant Singh Rajput and Rishi Kapoor in its In Memoriam section in the previous years.
