New Delhi: The 68th National Film Awards ceremony took place today. The venue for the honourable event was New Delhi's Vigyan Bhawan. The winners were revealed on July 22nd. On Friday, the government honoured those who have made significant contributions to the film industry. 


The awards were given by President Droupadi Murmu. Because of the COVID-19 delay, this year's National Film Awards also included films from 2020.


South superstar Suriya, who won the hearts of the audience with his portrayal in Soorarai Pottru, was given special recognition at today's 68th National Awards ceremony for his outstanding work. It's Suriya's first national award. 


Ajay Devgn won the Best Actor award ‘for Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior’. The movie also won an award in 'Best Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment' category. Ajay had previously won the National Award for Best Actor twice before, in 1998 for ‘Zakhm’ and in 2002 for ‘The Legend of Bhagat Singh’. 


Meanwhile, Vishal Bhardwaj's '1232Kms' won the National Award for 'Best Music Composition,' for the song 'Marenge Toh Wahin Jaakar.


In 2020, Asha Parekh was awarded India's highest honour, the Dadasaheb Phalke award. Though the event was postponed a year due to the epidemic, the legendary actress finally received her award on Friday.
