Year Ender 2019: From 'War' To 'Kabir Singh', Highest Grossing Films Of Bollywood Which Set Box Office On Fire
2019 was a good year for Bollywood as several content based films like ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’, ‘Article 15’ and ‘Sonchiriya’ hit the silver screens this year. The audience showered love on some on the films while they rejected few at the box office. Last year, ‘Sanju’, ‘Padmaavat’ and ‘Badhaai Ho’ had set the cash registers jingling. The likes of ‘War’, ‘Kabir Singh’, ‘Bharat’ and ‘Housefull 4’ managed to win the hearts of the movie buffs. The flavor of comedy always works at the box office and ‘Housesfull 4’ once again proved it. The film starring Akshay Kumar, Kriti Sanon, Bobby Deol, Riteish Deshmukh, Kriti Kharbanda did excellent business. The comedy drama collected Rs 205.06 crore at the domestic box office.
‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’ is placed at number three in the list of highest grossing films of Bollywood in 2019. The Aditya Dhar directorial emerged as a surprise package of the year. The military action drama is based on the 2016 Indian Army's surgical strikes in PoK following the terrorist attack in Jammu & Kashmir’s Uri town. The film starring Vicky Kaushal as Major Vihaan Singh Shergill had collected Rs 244 crore at the domestic box office.
Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani starrer ‘Kabir Singh’ created a lot of buzz when it released in June 2019. The film, which is the Hindi remake of Telugu hit ‘Arjun Reddy’, faced criticism from several critics and fans but it managed to woo the audience. The Sandeep Venga directorial collected a total of Rs 276.34 crore at the domestic box office.
Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff’s ‘War’ is the highest grosser of 2019. The action drama had started on flying note at the box office and this created momentum for the film. The Siddharth Anand directorial minted a total of Rs 292.71 crore at the domestic box office.
