New Delhi: Mrunal Thakur, who is playing the role of a police officer for the first time, auditioned for ‘Jai Gangaajal’. Priyanka Chopra ended up getting the part of the cop that Mrunal could have played early in her career, she recently disclosed during the promotion for 'Gumraah'.


The actor went on to say that Priyanka was the better actor for the role because she wasn't prepared at that time in her career. Mrunal told News18 at an event that she handled the 'Jai Gangaajal' rejection well. "What she did in the movie, maybe I wouldn’t have been able to do at that point. I wasn’t ready," she said.

Eventually, Mrunal made her Hindi film debut with Tabrez Noorani's 'Love Sonia'. Riya Sisodiya, Freida Pinto, Demi Moore, Manoj Bajpayee, Richa Chadha, Anupam Kher, Adil Hussain, Rajkummar Rao, and Sai Tamhankar were among the ensemble cast.


Now, Mrunal Thakur is playing the role of a cop in the upcoming film 'Gumraah'. Talking to about her film, the actor told Bollywood Hungama, "The moment you wear the uniform you feel powerful, of course. Obviously, I've never worn a uniform, I don't know what it feels to be a cop. [My] previous roles have always been about relationship(s) - daughter, lover or a wife. For the first time, I was at a job. I felt like I was born to play Shivani."


The actor plays Inspector Shivani Mathur in Vardhan Ketkar's film. She is given the case of murder with two suspects who appear the same (both played by Aditya).


Meanwhile, Mrunal Thakur was last seen in the 'Sita Ramam' along side Dulquer Salmaan. The Telugu romantic drama released in 2022. She also has the films 'Pippa' and 'Aankh Micholi' lined up for release this year and is starring with Nani in his next Telugu film, 'Nani 30'.
