Aashiqui 3: Triptii Dimri, who was slated to star opposite Kartik Aaryan in the much-anticipated romantic drama 'Aashiqui 3', is no longer part of the project. The announcement of the film, which was made last year, had excited fans, with reports suggesting that the actors had even filmed the muhurat shot. However, there are reports now that Triptii has exited the project.
Tripti's voluntary exit from Aashiqui 3?
According to a report by Mid-Day, Triptii decided to step away from the project due to ongoing delays in production. “Triptii was excited to headline the romance, but that’s not going to happen now. Aashiqui 3 is undergoing a [title]-related dispute. So, it has been postponed indefinitely,” Mid-Day quoted its source as saying.
Claims of being dropped
Contrary to this, there are also reports that the decision to replace Triptii came from the makers themselves.
“The fundamental requirement to be the heroine of Aashiqui 3 is innocence reflecting through, and as observed by the team behind the film, Triptii Dimri with her recent films has become too exposed to be cast in this romantic film which demands purity in demeanor from the female lead,” a source told Hindustan Times.
The insider added that the actress’s image had shifted significantly post her role in Animal, and the makers no longer felt she fit the part. “Aashiqui is a legendary, soulful love story, and the makers do not see Triptii fitting the parameters. After Animal, there has been no significant buzz around her, and her recent solo projects haven’t proven profitable at the box office,” the source elaborated.
Despite the differing narratives, neither Triptii nor the filmmakers have issued any official statements regarding the development, leaving room for speculation.
Production delays and title disputes
The production of Aashiqui 3 has been mired in delays and controversies. Initially co-produced by Bhushan Kumar and Mukesh Bhatt, the project faced a turning point in March 2024 when Bhushan Kumar announced he would be producing the film solo, under a new title, Tu Aashiqui Hai. However, reports later emerged that Kartik Aaryan preferred to keep the project as part of the Aashiqui franchise, causing further delays.
Directed by Anurag Basu, Aashiqui 3 remains one of the most anticipated films, but these setbacks have left its future uncertain.
