New Delhi: The Vaccine War, directed by Vivek Agnihotri, premiered on Thursday but did extremely poorly on its first day of release. Agnihotri's last film ‘The Kashmir Files’ was an immediate smash at the box office, therefore high hopes were placed on his newest picture, however it underperformed. The film is competing with ‘Fukrey 3’ which also opened on September 28. According to box office analyst Sacnilk, The Vaccine War generated Rs 1.3 crore on its first day.

India's first 'bio-science' film, The Vaccine War tells the tale of the scientists behind the creation of India's Covid-19 vaccine, Covaxin, in the midst of the pandemic. The film has been met with a variety of responses from reviewers, but it looks like audiences are not too enthusiastic about the film at this point.

According to  Sacnilk, 'The Vaccine War' made Rs 1.3 crore on its first day in theatres. On Thursday, 10.17 percent of Hindi-speaking audience saw The Vaccine War. The film had some stiff competition at the box office, including ‘Fukrey 3’ and ‘Chandramukhi 2’. Reports indicate that the film's budget was about 10 crore.

Earlier, in an interview with ABPLive, director Vivek Agnihotri discussed why he chose a subject like this. He said, “I believe that it was one of the greatest scientific achievements of Indian scientists. So, I thought this story must be told.”

He also said, “I think the audience should react positively because it's your story. It’s not my film - it's about you, your mother, your sister. It's about how we made this fantastic world's fastest indigenous vaccine and I think every family should see it with their children.”

Several well-known actors, including Nana Patekar, Pallavi Joshi, Raima Sen, Anupam Kher, Girija Oak, Nivedita Bhattacharya, Sapthami Gowda, and Mohan Kapur, are featured in the film. It is released in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.
