New Delhi: Ajay Devgn’s ‘Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior’, which hit the silver screens on January 10, has started on a flying note at the box office. The period action film has set the cash registers jingling on the very first day. The Om Raut directorial, which received good reviews from the critics, minted Rs 15.10 crore on its opening day.


Bollywood critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the first day box office collection of ‘Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior’ on Twitter. He mentioned that the film picked up pace post the afternoon. He also said that the positive word-of-the-mouth publicity will help the movie in posting a good total on day two and three.

“#Tanhaji exceeds expectations and posts healthy total on Day 1... Biz grew rapidly from post-noon onwards... Excellent in #Maharashtra [#Mumbai, parts of #CP and #Nizam circuits]... Glowing word of mouth should ensure solid growth on Day 2 and 3... Fri ₹ 15.10 cr. #India biz,” Adarsh wrote on the micro-blogging site.


Ajay Devgn played the role of Maratha warrior Subedar Tanhaji Malusare in the film co-starring Kajol and Saif Ali Khan. Saif portrayed the antagonist Udaybhan Rathod, who fought against Shivaji and his army during the Battle of Sinhagad. Kajol played Ajay Devgn's on-screen wife Savitri Bai.

'Tanhaji' also featured Sharad Kelkar, Neha Sharma and Shashank Shende in pivotal roles. The movie is a mass entertainer and it is expected to rake in big moolah at the box office despite competition from Deepika Padukone's 'Chhapaak'.
