New Delhi: The 2021 Tamil drama film ‘Koozhangal’ has been selected as India’s official entry to the Oscars 2022. Helmed by debutant P.S. Vinothraj, this film has been selected as India’s official entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 94th Academy Awards.


‘Koozhangal’ has been produced by Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan under the Rowdy Pictures banner. Sharing the news of the movie’s official entry to the Oscars, elated producer Vignesh Shivan wrote on Twitter, “There’s a chance to hear this! “And the Oscars goes to ….” Two steps away from a dream come true moment in our lives …. #Pebbles #Nayanthara @PsVinothraj @thisisysr @AmudhavanKar @Rowdy_Pictures Can’t be prouder , happier & content”.



Featuring Chellapandi and Karuththadaiyaan in the lead roles, ‘Koozhangal’ is a story based on director P.S. Vinothraj’s family. The story inspired him to direct the film and the whole film was shot at Arittapatiu within 30 days.


The movie was also screened at the 50th International Film Festival Rotterdam held in Netherlands on 4 February 2021. ‘Koozhangal’ was also officially selected at the North American premiere of New Directors New Films Festival. It was selected at the Jeonju International Film Festival held in South Korea and was screened at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles.


‘Koozhangal’ was selected from the 14 films which were shortlisted for India’s official entry to the Oscars 2022. ‘Sardar Udham’, Tamil film ‘Mandela’, Malayalam film ‘Nayattu’ were amongst the films which were shortlisted for India’s entry to the Oscars.


‘Koozhangal’ tells the story of a child who sets off with his violent and alcoholic father in search of mother who has run away from the abuse.
