Speculations are rife that Ranveer and Vicky will play the two brothers while Anil Kapoor will essay the role of their dad in the film. A report in an entertainment portal suggested that Kapoor will play Shah Jahan while Kareena will play his daughter Jahanara.
Ranveer, who impressed everyone with his fine portrayal of Alauddin Khilji in ‘Padmaavat, will be seen as Dara Shikoh, the report in Bollywood Hungama said. His ‘Gully Boy’ co-star Alia Bhatt will play his wife- Begum Nadira Banu in ‘Takht’.
Vicky Kaushal, who is awaiting the release of ‘Manmarziyaan’, will play Aurangzeb while Bhumi will be seen as his wife -Dilras Banu Begum, the report added.
Interestingly, ‘Dhadak girl’, will essay the role of a slave girl- Hira Bai, in the Karan Johar directorial.
Shah Jahan is considered to be one of the efficient and competent emperors of the Mughal Empire. He ascended the throne after his father Jahangir’s death by winning the war of succession. In Aurangzeb’s case, Shah Jahan supported Dara Shikoh (also known as Dara Shukoh). Aurangzeb ended up defeating and killing Dara Shikoh to claim the throne.
Talking about Takht’s star-cast, the ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’d director had told Film Companion, “It’s an unusual mix of talent. They are actors who have walked the parallel path, we have the superstar dynamic with Kareena (Kapoor), there’s Anil Kapoor who I have never directed before – but each actor fits the part to the tee. It’s not that I have gone to them because I have access. It’s a strange dichotomy. Each one has never played a part like this and yet each one fit it perfectly.
Karan is also producing another period drama- ‘Kalank’ starring Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha, Sanjay Dutt and Aditya Roy Kapur.
