Mumbai: Veteran actress Surekha Sikri passed away on Friday (July 16), leaving her fans and family members teary-eyed. She left for her heavenly abode at the age of 76. Sikri, known for her acting prowess, managed to carve a niche for herself in the film and TV industry. Several Bollywood and small screen celebs mourned her demise on social media. 


Parzaan Dastur, who played Surekha’s on-screen grandson in ‘Zubeidaa’, penned a heartfelt post for her. He expressed his grief over the demise of the actress and recalled his experience while shooting with her. 


“Deeply saddened to hear about the legendary Surekha Sikri. I had the brief yet momentous pleasure to work with her on a beautiful film called Zubeidaa where she played my grandmother,” Parzaan wrote. 


The ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ actor also talked about Surekha Sikri’s scene with late Amrish Puri in ‘Zubeidaa’. He said that witnessing such a performance at the age of nine was a ‘privilege’. 


"In one scene she had to dramatically hold Amrish Puri sir’s collar to make him realise that their young daughter was dead and not to be stone cold about it. I was all of 9 years old and barely understood the depth and nuances of acting. But witnessing such a performance was a privilege. I knew I was in the presence of a master," he added.



Shashank Vyas, who was seen as Surekha’s grandson Jagdish in ‘Balika Vadhu’, also shared a heartwarming note for her. 


Surekha Sikri, who was suffering from the complications of the brain strokes, died due to a cardiac arrest. On the professional front, she was last seen in ‘Ghost Stories’, which beamed on Netflix. 


Sikri is fondly known for playing the role of Kalyani Devi aka Dadisa in ‘Balika Vadhu’, which made her a household name. Her impactful performance grabbed several eyeballs for the social media and made her a fan favorite.
