New Delhi: Marvel Entertainment and Sony Pictures released the official trailer of Spider-Man: No Way Home on Wednesday, November 17. The teaser trailer for the movie, released in August, had provided several some hints to the return of famous Spider-Man villains, and the official trailer confirms that.
The first part of the trailer shows the ramifications of Peter Parker's identity being revealed by Mysterio. In the teaser, it was shown that Peter went to Doctor Strange to ask for his help to make the world forget that Parker was Spider-Man. However, this backfired, and brought different antagonists from the multiverse into the sacred timeline.
Here are some of the hidden details spotted in the trailer.
1. The Origin Story Of Spider-Man?
The trailer opens with Peter Parker telling MJ that after being bit by the radioactive spider, he had only one week where his life felt normal, and that was the week after MJ knew his identity. This is the first time the origin of Spider-Man has been referenced in the MCU.
Then, we see Parker and MJ flying through subway tunnels. The subway scene apparently takes place right from where the events of Spider-Man Far From Home left off.
2. The Mess
Doctor Strange tells Parker that when the former botched the spell where he wanted everyone to forget that Spider-Man was Peter Parker, the Universe started getting some visitors from every universe. Strange makes a reference to characters from other Spider-Man universes, such as Doc Ock, Green Goblin, Sandman, Electro, and Lizard, all of whom are seen in the trailer.
In one of the scenes, MJ blames Doctor Strange for the mess that has been created.
3. Green Goblin's Entry
Willem Defoe's Green Goblin enters the scene on a drone, at the famous bridge-fight sequence. The pumpkin bomb can also be spotted, and Green Goblin is back in his classic costume from Sam Raimi Spider-Man films.
Norman Osborne has become homeless and will travel to FEAST, an organisation run by Aunt May, according to some leaks. He will encounter Parker and will tell him that the villains will die if they return to their respective universes, resulting in a chain of events that leads to Peter trying to free them.
4. Spider-Man's Black And Golden Suit
The Black and Golden suit which Tom Holland's Spider-Man is seen wearing is basically the Red and Black Spidey suit turned inside out. This is because a supporter of Mysterio had thrown green paint over Peter, as seen in a leaked alternate trailer.
Peter's suit appears to be enchanted, as he is seen holding some golden, magical rings in his right hand. Apparently, Doctor Strange enchanted Peter's suit with magical powers to help him send the villains back to their respective universes. Also, Electro is seen behind Peter, in the background.
5. Spidey From Doc Ock's Universe?
Alfred Molina's Doctor Octopus, or Doc Ock, greets Peter, whose face is covered. Peter uses double webs as he avoids being hit by Doc Ock's metallic arms or tentacles. The bridge scene takes place at the Hudson river, which is where Doc Ock was killed in Spider-Man 2.
His tentacles have red and gold nanobots, indicating that he absorbed the nanotech features from Spider-Man's suit.
Doc Ock pushes Spider-Man against a wall, and removes his mask, revealing Tom Holland's face. Surprised, Doc Ock says, "You are not Peter Parker". This is suggestive of the fact that Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man, the Spidey from Doc Ock's universe, will be seen in the movie.
6. Doc Ock's Real Name
After the bridge scene, the trailer cuts to a scene where Doc Ock is seen in a prison, probably below Doctor Strange's Sanctum Santorum. Peter, MJ, and Ned ask Doc Ock his name, to which he replies that he is Dr. Otto Octavius, a revelation at which Peter and his friends burst into laughter.
7. Statue Of Liberty With Captain America Shield
The trailer cuts to a scene where the Statue of Liberty has a Captain America shield on it. The lightning shown in the scene indicates Electro. Peter stands on top of the statue's head and is holding a cube. This is the same cube which Peter is depicted as trying to snatch from Doctor Strange in the teaser.
Near the Statue of Liberty, Strange tells Peter that there are others out there, and that they must be sent back to their respective universes.
An explosion occurs, and rings are formed, similar to the ones seen when Doctor Strange was casting a spell. The statue falls apart, MJ starts to fall, and Peter jumps after MJ. This is probably where the final battle scene takes place.
8. The Most Important Scene
The most important scene in the trailer is the one in which Doc Ock tells Peter, "You are flying out into the darkness to fight ghosts." Peter asks him what he means, and Doctor Strange says "They all die", referring to the villains fighting against Spider-Man. Strange knows that it is the villains' fate to die at the hands of Spider-Man.
9. Parker Escapes With The Cube
Strange holds a cube in his hands, which acts as a cell to imprison everyone who has come from other universes, and also serves as the only means of sending them back to their respective timelines. Doctor Strange apologises to Parker, who also says sorry. Parker then webs up the cube Strange is holding. Probably, Parker felt guilty about the fact that many characters died at the hands of other Spider-Men, which is why Holland's Spider-Man snatches the cube to save all entities who have come from other universes.
This is followed by scenes of Strange chasing Peter through New York. We see a sharp contrast between Strange and Peter's goals. Strange's aim is to protect reality, while Peter's aim is to protect life. There is a touch of humanity in the trailer, as we see Peter is desperate to save the villains, and asks Strange if there is any other way, to which Strange replies, "There isn't". He also tells Peter that the entities are a danger to our universe.
We also see Aunt May running away from some unknown threat. It is speculated that she may be trying to escape Green Goblin.
10. Electro, Sandman, And Lizard
In a particular scene, three Spider-Man villains are shown. These are Sandman, Lizard, and Electro. Jamie Foxx's Electro has a new look, which matches the character's appearance in the comics. The colour of electricity has been changed from blue to yellow.
At the end of Spider-Man 3, Sandman had apologised to Peter, who said that he forgave the former. Though Sandman had turned into a positive character, he is seen fighting against Peter in the trailer.
The Lizard, which is a beast Dr. Curt had turned into in previous Spider-Man movies, can also be spotted.
This could also be the scene where Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's Spider-Men come to help Tom Holland's Spider-Man.
11. Green Goblin's Message To Parker
In the background, Willem Defoe's voice can be heard telling Parker that he was struggling to save everything he wants while the world tries to make him choose. This is heard while Parker is holding the cube, and Green Goblin is probably speaking to Parker from inside the cube.
Peter, while standing on top of the Statue of Liberty, says it is all his fault, and that he cannot save everybody. This is suggestive of the fact that he will be helped by Maguire and Garfield's Spider-Men.
12. MJ's Fall
When the building collapses, and MJ falls, Peter goes after her. This is reminiscent of the scene in which Gwen Stacey falls from the top of a building in Amazing Spider-Man 2, and dies, as Garfield's Spider-Man fails to save her.
We see a hand reaching out to save MJ, which could belong to Garfield's Spider-Man.
The trailer ends with some mystical events occurring around the Statue of Liberty, and Doctor Strange telling Peter that the visitors from other universes are starting to come through, and that he cannot stop them. The trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home gives the vibes of Avengers:Endgame.
Spider-Man No Way Home is slated to release in theatres worldwide on December 17.
